Being a pioneer in electronic initiation, TB describes what has been achieved through Delta Caps International and bme/delta Caps Initiators in the past years, only from an historical point of view.

Electronic Delay Detonators

DELTADET 4 is the very last stage of DELTADET Technology. It’s a two wire detonator with centralized programming capabilities. The new design gives a cost effective product.(prototype stage only)
The new blasting boxes take advantage of modern electronic components giving a very small equipment but versatile.
•Independent logger for line exploring and programming
•Independent blaster for charging and firing
•Remote wireless module compatible with MML technology
Standard features are:
•Range of delay (0-15s)
•Step of programming: 1 ms
•Accuracy: +/- 0,5 ms whatever the delay
•Number of detonator per line : 100 units
•Number of detonator per blasting box : 1 500 units
Electronic Delay Detonators

Developed to blast very large numbers of EDD (up to 7 500 in one block) and to manage multiple blocks at the same time, the MML technology has been introduced successfully in South Africa in August 2007.
A world record has been broken, by bme shooting 3 056 EDD in one blast in an open pit in South Africa.

DELTADET SC is an electronic surface block connector down hole shock tube initiation.
Electronic Delay Detonators

It offers all the features developed trough the past years in the standard size of a electric or non electric detonator. Moreover the range of delay has been pushed up to 15s with the same accuracy of +/- 0.5 ms.
Standard features are:
Range of delay (0-15s)
Step of programming: 1 ms
Accuracy: +/- 0,5 ms what ever the delay
Number of detonator per line : 80 units for 20 m cable

DELTADET 3 - 2006
First generation of miniaturized DELTADET technology.

New functionality came with such as the number of detonators on a line independent from the down hole length of cable and set up to 200 units.
The MULTILINE blasting machine was upgraded to handle 750
DELTADET 2.
A dedicated primer was designed by BME, with a specific shape to achieve high performance initiation of bulk emulsion.
This technology and product has been used by BME to shot hundred thousands of DELTADET 2 in various configurations.

DELTADET 2 - 2003
DELTADET technology manufactured in South Africa by bme and customised for large open pits.
Electronic Delay Detonators

The MULTILINE technology was developed to multiply by 5 the initial capacity of the standard blasting machine by synchronizing and mastering 5 different lines gathered on one box. Consequently this standard box was named MONOLINE !.
TB was one of the first to analyse the need of remote wireless initiation for such type of large blast. This feature was also incorporated in the MULTILINE blasting box, giving the capability to program, arm, check and shoot 500 DELTADET from a distance up to 3 to 5 km. The first wireless blast was done at Chuquicamata mine in Chile.
This feature is today a standard in large open pits. In 2005 a paper was presented at the EFEE conference.
The same year appeared a field tester capable to identify current leakage to the ground. As current leakage are one of the most critical “disease” of electronic detonators, this equipment was key to identify leakage on the field and consequently improve implementation time.
DELTADET MULTILINE - 2000
was the first electronic detonator with remote wireless capability introduced on the market.

Centralised programming was the main feature (see DSL2) and the constant accuracy what ever the delay.
Standard features were:
Range of delay (0-5s)
Step of programming: 1 ms
Accuracy: +/- 0,5 ms what ever the delay
Number of detonator per line :
100 units for 20 m cable
150 units for 10 m cable
180 units for 5 m cable
DELTADET 1 has also a unique feature based on its electronic module independent from the pyrotechnic head (a standard zero delay electric detonator). The assembling process was easy and safe with a dedicated assembling machine. This technology allowed to ship all over the word DELTADET electronic module and experience the accuracy and centralised programming of DELTADET technology.
DELTADET 1 - 1999
was the first generation of DELTADET technology introduced by Delta Caps International.
This product was mainly used for vibration control in France and fragmentation optimization in Chile.
Electronic Delay Detonators

In 1998 with the support of the French explosive company TITANITE and its CEO (Jean Louis POMAREDE), the first production was done in France.
DSL2 was the first electronic detonator to receive an approval in France by the French laboratory INERIS and also the first to obtain a CE mark for electronic detonators.
DSL2 technology introduced a high level of safety for electronic detonators with the centralized programming feature. This feature allows the blaster to transfer delays to each detonator from a central point (far from the block) without programming detonators one by one. Being away from the detonators when programming places the blaster in a very safe position. In case of unexpected detonation during this active phase ( the detonator is powered) the blaster is far away from the initiation point and less exposed to fly rocks.
DSL 2 - 1994
was the first electronic detonator developed by TB.
